Sequential 4-speeds mini gearbox instructions

After many requests, I put at your disposal instructions for building the Mini's mini sequential gearbox.

I know that some of the connections and solutions looks needlessly complex, but this is fact so to fit it to the little mini's nose, you can adapt it to your own car.

IMPORTANT NOTE!!!

- The red rubbers connect both 1 stud bush under the selector, like this:

- You must change the yellow plate 1x4 for a rack 1x4(ref. 3743), this part doesn't exist in LDD :(
- You must change the red axle connector Ridged(ref. 6538a/b) inside the Driving Ring, for an axle connector smooth(ref. 6538c), oriented like this picture:

Finally you can download the LDD file(.lxf) and the step by step instructions in the INSTRUCTIONS page, enter and access to the Download folder

I hope this gearbox will be useful for you!!!

Yes, the MegaUpload link gives an error message that says "The file you are trying to access is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."

Michael R said...

Are you sure you didn't accidentally make it private or something? I will try it again tomorrow.

Note that for "Non-Members" of MegaUpload, the "Download limit per 24 hours" is "Very Limited" -- http://www.megaupload.com/?c=premium . I will try again in 24 hours.

It works now! Looks like a very good gearbox, can't wait to try it out!

The link is not working though...

Thanks a lot

Well, some of the connections and solutions looks needlessly complex to working in garage, but this is fact so to fit it to the little mini 's nose, you can adapt it to your own car.

Use dropbox.com for your files

I tried to build a fiat 500 (new) with your chassis. Try a linear gearbox. It took less room, allowing me to but in an L motor for more power in the nose. (line the gearbox parallel to driving motor in nose along floor, or else it gives backlash. But otherwise brilliant. Try a 240zg next. =)

Hi, I don't quite understand where the two red rubbers has to be connected.
Can you give a detail?
Thx.

Thanks a lot!
It's the first remote and functionnal gearbox I ever build (:
I think it would be easy to make it automatic, what do you think about it?

for wath are the to rubbers

The rubbers connection show in the main article.

LTCGr said...

does the rubbers tension mater?

Sheepo said...

Yes, the rubbers must be very tense. You can use other no-lego rubbers but the high tense is very important.

LTCGr said...

can you please tell me where the motor or the gear of the motor goes in order to channge gears and where the input an the output is

Sander said...

Hi Sheepo,
perhaps I already asked too many times but could you show us how the gear shifter/stepper motor drives your transmission? Thats's somethinh i just cant figure out...
A photo would do, probably.
Cheers

Is there any way to change gears without a motor ? Thank you Sheepo

Sheepo said...

You can change speeds with a motor or manually, but not automatic, if you are asking that...

Anonymous said...

it would be great if you could post real pictures , too . It is such a shame ... presenting such a great gearbox without the proper pictures ... Otherwise perfect !!!!! Thank you Sheepo

Nice Gearbox, its a similar solution to what I got to with my 5+N+R adaption of your veyron gearbox although you have made the selectors even more compact. I might try to merge the ideas on mine with these and see what happens. However, like previous posts - I am interested how do you precisly pulse the motor for each gear change.

Sheepo said...

This version is very very compact, and it don't have secuential pulse selector, you must stop manualy the motor when each speed is selected

Could you putsome better instructions up please!
I dont understand these.

Sheepo said...

Sorry, but that is your problem, many people had built it without problems. Look the instructions slow and you will can build it.

Hi, this is a really neat if I could share this public web site? eg: facebook

Sheepo said...

Of course, why not?? hahaha

Hi Sheepo,

great work this little piece of technic.
But at "Important Note!!!" i see only a picture with an exclamation mark on it.
Is it possible to check this?

Thx

Sheepo said...

Fixed!!! Thanks for the warning!!

Anonymous said...

is there a way to tell what gear it is in from a distance like 1 yard?

Sheepo said...

Yes, looking the driving ring levers.

Anonymous said...

Hi, can you tell me where the part with the rack attached goes?

Sheepo said...

Inside the gearbox, search a flat space for it ;)

Unknown said...

What is the point in the arm across the top? I built it without it and a few modifications and works just fine.

Sheepo said...

It is only to avoid dissasemble problems, it doesn't have mechanical use.

Anonymous said...

what side is the input?

Anonymous said...

never mind got it.
thx

Anonymous said...

hello Sheepo,

you helped me alot with my own supercar gearbox mechanism.

thx!!!

Anonymous said...

Hi sheppo am from india m getting problems because of motor it is damm costly on our city can u giv me any idea fo making the motor

Sheepo said...

I only use Lego motors, so I don't know how you can do it with other motoros, but you can try with small RC cars motors...

In your video of the Mini Cooper the gearbox shift with a motor. I've got 2 questions,
K
For what is that thing that you make in de first fotos and how to connect a motor on it so it shift automatic?

Sheepo said...

- The speed selector
- In the axle below to the speed selector

Anonymous said...

But how can I make that, I tried but it doesn't work.

Ps I love your cars

Sheepo said...

If it doesn't work is because you have built it wrong...

Unknown said...

Is this mini cooper gear box??

Unknown said...

There is gear racks in LDD! They are in the gear section somewhere near the top.

Unknown said...

For me it doesn't work right.. shifter gets often stuck between 3rd and 4th gear and I can't move with it, I have to take it apart, fix it and put it back together.

Thanks a million!
