MINI Cooper Mark I

After spending a year and a half creating my Porsche 911, I decided to make a smaller and simpler car, but keeping some of the complexity of my previous creations.

But at the same time I wanted to follow the line to create all my cars on a scale between 1/7.5 and 1/8.5. So if I wanted to make a small car, I had to choose a very small car, a mini car we ... doing a MINI!!
The choice of the first version (Mark I) was only to seek a taste of the purest classic.

The final scale is 1/7.8, which is exactly the same as the Bugatti Veyron, and the final dimensions are only 23 studs wide, 49 long and 22.5 high. Looking this size I created a big scale car, but in mid-size :).

It has all the typical feautres of all Technic MOCs as functionals doors, hood and trunk. Also I have added folding front seats for access to the rear seat(this is my first car with two rows of seats haha)
It has a 4-cylinder transverse front fake engine, and as a curiosity the order of the cylinders follows the same order as a real, not like 99% of MOCs and technic sets.

Logically it has independent suspension on all wheels, and also it is the same type used in the real Mini, double wishbone front and longitudinal single-arm back.
Of course it is front wheel drive like the Mini and steering with functional steering wheel.

And the best for the end, this little car has a secret under that little hood, it has 4-speed sequential gearbox. The size is only 11x10x8 studs.

With this gearbox I close the discussion about the sequential gearboxes are too big for use in medium-sized cars.

The sequencing mechanism is one of the many versions of the Porsche's gearbox discarded.

It has no clutch but the car's relatively low weight (1.8kg) together with a good set-up result that does not need to switch brands correctly, as you can see in the video below.

It should be remembered that in that under that little nose, the car has: a drive axle with steering, a transverse 4-cylinder engine and sequential gearbox with all his mechanism. Maximum compaction.

As you can see in this last picture all electrical components are in the bottom of the car under the seats to maximize interior space.

And finally, as always a little video!!!

  4. Your gearbox was a technical surprise, I look forward to more details; your ability to push the bar of excellence is noted. You inpire us to ask 'how far' can the lego technic system can promote innovation in our teaching of design.

  5. The accuracy of the styling and the realistic layout (front engine+gearbox, suspension etc) are amazing. This is the first Lego car ive seen where the engine looks like the real thing in terms of layout and relative size to the model. Amazing work... hope to hear more about the technic side of this beauty!

  25. Hello, There is possibility of having the assembly plan of the Mini? I like very much your model but I do not manage to realize it the same model. I am a fan of Mini and of lego too, and it would be very great to collect both. I am sorry from my English. Thanks

  26. I must say that, you are just amazing. Imagine, you've managed to create a remote-controlled cooper by using pieces of Lego. Should I say, you are certainly good at it and if ever, the Lego decided to adapt this idea, they must give you credit for this.

  27. Can you please make the instructions?

  28. My son would go crazy over this! He is into cars and Lego so I'm sure this will be a hit to him.

  29. Wow! Just wow! I can't say anything more because by just thinking about how you manage to build and assemble this kind of complicated and intricately-designed mini is just unimaginable. I mean, creating a perfect replica of the real one by using lego pieces and then making it move is just amazing.

  30. I would really love to purchase these instructions! Please let me know if you have plans to do this in the near future. I have voted for it on Cuusoo. You are very talented. I will try my best to build it without instructions... I don't like my chances though.

  31. when are the instructions going to be made?

  33. Sorry.... but where is possible to find instruction and parts list for make this beatiful car ?

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't have instructions for this car. Sorry

    ReplyDelete
  35. But is possible to buy this model ?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Why don't you build a new car like this, with a front transverse engine, transverse gearbox, front wheel drive setup with mac-pherson suspensions? I mean, that would be much closer to a real car setup!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. By the way, I don't want to be misunderstood; this is a great car, but maybe not as realistic as some of your other models; that is why I made that suggestion.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Maybe like the Ford Focus Rs 2009....

  39. Very cool moc, can you try to make a newer mini cooper? like an all electric mini? I would love to make this moc for my dad cause he loves minis
