Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 '14

You can buy te complete building instructions HERE

The Mustang is one of the most famous cars in the world since 1964 with its first generation.
One year after the Mustang was released, Ford wanted a enhanced version of its car for run at the same level of its rivals in the US races. To design this car Ford hired the driver and car designer Carroll Shelby (1923-2012).

The first Mustang modified by Shelby was the GT350, released in 1965, and the next year(1966) Ford and Shelby showed the legendary Shelby GT500. The collaboration between Shelby and Ford continues today.
And this is my interpretation of the current version of that historic collaboration.

The real one.

This creation is made in scale 1:8. The total size is: 75 studs of length, 29 wide and 21 of high (60x23x17 cm)

The weight is 3.1 kgs, with around 3500 parts and 5 motors.

It includes some remote controlled functions:
- Steering (M motor)
- Drive (2 L motors)
- Sequential gearbox (PF Servo motor)
- Disc brakes (M motor)

The sequential gearbox is an improved version of my previous Caterham ones (3rd Gen V2), with 5+R and auto-clutch.

The speeds ratio:

R - 2.08:1
1 -  1.67:1
2 -  1.25:1
3 -  1:1
4 -  1:1.33
5 -  1:1.67

The max speed in 5th speed is 3 kph (~2 mph)
It has a gear indicator in the interior, between the front seats.

V8 fake engine under the bonnet.

A complete bodywork with openable doors, bonnet and rear truck hood.
The bonnet can be opened from the interior using a little lever just front of the right seat.
Also the doors have lock, you need turn the door handle to open it.

It has 4 full size seats and folding front seats.

For make more easy the gearbox tests the car in has a rear support to keep the rear axle lifted

The suspension is based in the real one: front McPherson axle and a rear 4-links live axle.

The front axle also has advenced geometry: Camber angle(2º), caster angle(3.5º) and kingpin angle(7º)

The steering has ackerman geometry and working steering wheel.

The car also has working disc brakes in all wheels, they are very powerfull and includes functional brake pedal.

Now the "most wanted" picture for technic fans:

Like the real one, this creation has unibody frame. The roof is part of the frame too, it improve a lot the torsional stiffness.

You can disassemble the whole car in less than 3 minutes. But you will need a little bit more time to reassemble it again...

COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE COMING SOON!!

Finally as always a little video:

I hope you like it!!

  2. A greath MOC and worth every second of waithing but I still have the feeling that I'm missing something (just litlle thigns) like PF lights and some more info of (by example ) the gearbox, suspension and the bodywork. I don't know but I just have the feeling that you're giving less and less info every time when you create a new moc.
but afterall it still is a great moc and I don't want to offend you I still have a lot of respect for you and you're buildingskills are way above mine but that's just the way it is

  3. Watching the car, you put on it 2 L motors; why you don't have put 2 xl?? just because of the space??

    ReplyDelete
  4. las instrucciones tendra el mismo precio que las del Defender?? gran coche porcierto ;)

    ReplyDelete
  5. can't wait for the instructions! do you know about when they will be available and about how much they will cost? also do you think it could be built in a different color like blue without major modifications? thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I don't know the price of the isntructions yet, but I think it will be similar to the Defender ones.
About the color, I think it is impossible build the car in other color, you can change the white color easily, but with red part it is almost imposible, maybe doing some changes you can do it in blue, but it will be much more expensive.

  7. Awesome Supercar, you make the best models in the world

    ReplyDelete
  8. and what about the part cost??

    ReplyDelete
  9. Great job as always! Honestly we have become accustomed too well with the 911, the Defender and the Peterbilt ... and this seems to have a little less features, but it is fantastic and beyond my ability!
I'm curious to see the 3rd Gen V2 Gearbox,...the one on the Defender was impressive engineered and was fantastic to build and study.

  10. is the moc showed on tendbrick another car or another bridge or maybe even something else??

  11. Sheepo does this mean that your are going to skip making instructions for the Lotus 7 and move right to this Mustang? I do like your Mustang BUT would REALLY like to make the 7!!!

  14. Hi Sheepo,

Just landed here. Amazing car you created! The Mustang is one of my favourites and would love to make this one. Would love to see the instructions to see which parts are needed.

My technics lego collection contains mostly the first generation parts so I will have to buy a lot of parts ;-)

Keep on going with the great creations!

  22. Having bought the instructions for the Defender I'm very much looking forward to this one. I understand the full instructions can take another 2 months, but is it perhaps possible to already release the partlist for this model?
If not, no problem, we'll just have to be patient...

    Best regards.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Could you put this on Lego Cuuso that would be awsome

    ReplyDelete
  27. Why not add an airtank airbag system to your next model? It's just finding an empty balloon, and press the hoses from the pneumatic system through the holes in the lego technic bricks with the balloon wrapped around the end of the hose. I'm a big fan of your cars!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Great work! I published a post about this MOC in LEGO TECHNIC Isreal Facebook page which I manage.

  31. Hi Sheepo,
Which sets would you recommend to buy to get most of the needed parts for the Mustang?
Will you publish the partslist before the instruction is finished?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Good question, there are not good set to get parts por this MOC, probably none gets you more than 20-25% of the parts. But I think that the 42000 and the 8070 can have some usefull parts.
The partlist will be published at the same time as the instructions. Now I have a part list, but problaby it will change a little bit to the final ones.

    ReplyDelete
  33. When will the instructions be available and the price for them?

    ReplyDelete
  34. I hope it can be ready before christmas, and I don't know the price yet.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hi, I was wondering, when will you make a/the post about the differences between the gearboxes?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Hello, votre moc est magnifique..
avec quel logiciel de LegoCad avez vous réalisé les instructions ? LDraw, LDD, other ?
et où avez vous trouvé les "motors and electrics parts" ?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hello, I have one question, if I buy the instructions, you know, Where I can buy the diferents components?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Instructions with SR3D Builder + MLCad + LPub

    To buy parts: www.bricklink.com

    ReplyDelete
  62. But bricklink doesn't have any brick

    ReplyDelete
  63. what is the approx price of all the parts to build the mustang?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Best Sheepo would you please tell me if I own two xl motors in the Mustang processing, which would be less than two l motors? faster and more powerful?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Please tell me soon my pieces are almost!

    ReplyDelete
  66. XL motors have more power than L motors, but you can't fit them inside the Mustang.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I think if I change a little bit of the chassis.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I hope it works because then he'll be fine drive. (In the movie, he went a little slow)

    ReplyDelete
  69. Would it be possible to buy instructions for the sequential gearbox only at a lower price?

    ReplyDelete
  70. Sheepo hi, I bought a while ago you instructions but the gearbox did not. I then even made him three times. can you please tell me what the problem is?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Easy, you have built it wrong three times. Look very closely all parts and steps.

    ReplyDelete
  72. yes but it is not too heavy for the servo motor?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Sheepo hi i have a big problem. I wanted so the bodywork going to make it part 32016 to get anywhere! if it is available anywhere, it costs about 3 euros each. I wonder how you have solved it. I would like this question to get an answer.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I bought my parts 3 years ago, then the cost was less than 0.2€...

    ReplyDelete
  75. but do you know where you are may get them more cheaply?

    ReplyDelete
  76. sheepo-
why not have a 6+N+R gearbox instead of a 5+R? the real thing has 6 forward speeds and one R, and you could use the N to show of the 662 fake horsepower.

otherwise, this is an absolutely stunning and realistic creation, an i love it. keep it up!

    ReplyDelete
  77. do you have plans to make free instructions for the sequential gearbox in your Ford Mustang Shelby GT500?

    ReplyDelete
  78. roughyl how much are all the parts total to build this beats please let me know asap i wanna build this thing for a friend asap

    ReplyDelete
  79. where is possible to find instruction and parts list for make this car?

    ReplyDelete
  80. The cost of all the parts is around 650€

    ReplyDelete
  81. sheepo hi, I have the mustang itself built only for a little tinkering is I managed to use two xl motors for the drive. my question was why you have not used before 2 xl motors.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Good question... This car was designed under request for store, they wanted it in manual version, but when I went to deliver it, they decide that they didn't want it. So in that moment I had a huge car, with complete instructions but with all its functions manual. So I modified the car to add sequential gearbox and all others motors, but I didn't want to redo the instructions, so I only added the new features over the "old"chassis, and in the old chassis had not enough space to use XL motors.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Is it not possible to buy and download this instructions?

    ReplyDelete
  84. This is awesome!!! where can i buy this Shelby compleet?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Sorry, but no, You only can buy the instructions.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Where ca i buy the instructione, ist there a Partlist for the bricks?

    ReplyDelete
  87. ¿Tienes el Lego mindstorm NXT? Si es así, ¿Podrías hacer un supercoche que la utilizara?

    ReplyDelete
  88. No tengo ningún Mindstorm, no me gustan. A mi lo que me gusta es la mecanica y un NXT limita demasiado.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Your car is very super

    ReplyDelete
  90. El NXT limita mucho, pero se puede hacer, aunque no con todas las prestaciones que tiene este coche.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Hi There,

Any possibility to buy a "whole pack" from you? I mean Instruction + bricks.
Ready to pay a bit more than @ BL.

    Reagards,

    Wuy

    ReplyDelete
  92. I don't sell parts, try with themocshop.com

    ReplyDelete
  93. where can I get one! My son loves legos.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Howard Gersch09 July, 2015 02:53

I purchased the plans and completed the model. It is great and I had much fun collecting the parts, learning about bricklink, and then completing the model. It is beautiful and certainly the most complex project I have built. Your creativity and technical skills are amazing. Everything works but I am not sure about the gearbox. I don't think it is shifting, but I am not sure how to use the remote to shift the gears. Before I take it apart and try to find an error, if indeed there is a mistake I made, could you please say how the gears are to be shifted? I am just using one lever.

    ReplyDelete
  95. You only need to push the lever for more or less a second in the remote like I do in the video.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Is there anyway I could upgrade the engine its a hobby

    ReplyDelete
  97. You can try, but probably you will break the gearbox.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Why use two L motors instead of one L motor, dose two motors make it more powerful?

    ReplyDelete
  99. do u get all the parts in the instructions

    ReplyDelete
  100. is it possible to buy the set

    ReplyDelete
  101. Hello Sheepo. Why the rear suspension so weak

    ReplyDelete
  102. Nice job. Won't the liftram that you used for the links( live axle ) get damaged?

    ReplyDelete
  103. No, the liftarms are perfect. The angle it turns when one wheel compress the suspension is very low and it not force the liftarm.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Have you considered that you put the tail lights upside down. One of them is the opposite side.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Can you use the brakes at 5th gear?

    ReplyDelete
  106. Hey Sheepo. I am building a car that has more weight in the rear (Almost rear 60%, front 40%). When I compress the rear suspension (multilink suspension), it reacts the same as your mustang. Is that a geometry issue or is that realistic?

    ReplyDelete
  107. ACtually in Lego creations is very hard to appreciate the difference between different suspensions when they are working

    ReplyDelete
  108. Hi. Nice channel and website. I recently subscribed you. I just wanna know that will you make intructions of the 3rd and 4th generation of gearbox? Because I really wanna know how they work.

    ReplyDelete
  109. This Mustang includes a 3rd gen gearbox, and the 300SL has 4th gen ones, you can buy instructions for both

    ReplyDelete
  110. So you are not gonna share free instructions for gearboxes only?

    ReplyDelete
  111. Hi Sheepo

Is it possible to upgrade the gearbox to the new version?
So from the 3th edition to the 4th in this moc?

    ReplyDelete
  112. No, there is not reason for that, this gearbox works very well

    ReplyDelete
  113. Hi,
It seems like L motors aren't strong enough to drive my Mustang at 3rd or higher gear, do you have that too?

    ReplyDelete
  114. Mennyibe kerül?

    ReplyDelete
