Jeep Wrangler Rubicon (JK)

After some months of silence it's time to show a new car.

One of the icons of USA cars the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon (JK), a real leyend still alive.

Complete instructions available HERE

It is built in scale 1/10. With an overall size of 23x52x25 studs(18x42x20 cm).

It weights 2.7Kgs, and has around 2700 parts

It is powered by 5 PF motors, 2 IR receivers and one PF AA battery.

- 2XL motors for drive
- M motor for steering
- M motor for sequential gearbox
- M motor for drive mode and range gearbox

Fully openable doors with bonnet and trunk.

The rear spare wheel is connected to the battery, so to turn ON/OFF the battery you only need to turn slightly the wheel one or other side.

V6 fake engine and complete interior with working stering wheel.

As usual 5+R speeds sequential gearbox (4th GEN).

2-speeds range gearbox and 2WD/4WD modes. Also its has an important feature of the Rubicons versions: lockeable front and rear differenfials.

Realistic drive modes, you can select sequentialy between 4 drive modes: 2H, 4H, 4L and 4L with lock diff.

I know many people like the Wrangler looks more extreme, for them I have built a second pair of axles. They include portal hubs and an extra 3:1 gear reduction.

They also add 2 studs high and 2 studs wide of each side

Important note: even with trial axles this car is not a Trial Truck, you can not expect Trial Truck off-road capabilities...

Also this time I release at the same time the Manual version. It has the same functions of the RC version, including 5+R speeds manual gearbox(instead of sequential), 2 speeds range gearbox, 2WD/4WD modes and lockeable differentials.

As always finally complete video:

Pretty Cool!! Can you say something about what you expect from Lego Porsche Contest? http://www.lego.com/en-us/rebrick/contest-page/contests/the-lego-technic-ultimate-contest

Precioso el video Fernando. Vas a conseguir que Villacarrillo sea conocido a nivel mundial. Espero con impaciencia poder construirlo. Enhorabuena.

Nice. How similar is it to the defender build?

Sheepo said...

If you mean about the building process, yes, it is similar, you built it in big parts and then place it together.

BenScoobert said...

But the internals are updated and all new?

Sheepo said...

All mechanism are complitely new, nothing related with the Defender. More compact and of course much more reliabable

Just awesome! I probably only have half the needed 2700 parts but man what a fantastic creation. Is there a parts list available? I couldn't find it on Rebrickable.

how to buy

Unknown said...

Do gearboxes have definite control like porsche and mustang or not? Maybe like MB 300SL...?

Sheepo said...

IT is like 300SL, this control is less confortable, but more compact and reliable

There is a simple and fast way to answer all your questions: buy the instructions and discover how it works by yourself.

Dónde puedo comprar uno y cual es precio???

Sheepo said...

Las instrucciones las puedes comprar en esta web pero para las piezas debes ir a bricklink.com

Where do you buy all the parts for the jeep? On here?

Unknown said...

Are there any new MOCs coming up? It's been a while...

Anonymous said...

Hi sheepo, are you still making cars?

Anonymous said...

are you interessed in using the BuWizz

Sheepo said...

Il is cool, but I still have not any option to get one

Unknown said...

How do you order them?

Unknown said...

Hi, Sheepo, where are new posts "making of...". It was very interesting and educational to read these posts.

Hi Sheepo! When we can expect your next creation? Cheers!

Sheepo said...

Hi Zoli!! Unfortunately I don't have too much time to build, I don't have any new big car in way. I just have one new MAP bodywork and a few MAP chassis and attachments but even then I don,t have time to do the instructions and the video :(

Zoli said...

Sadly hear that. I hope you will have more time to work on a new project.

Will you update the "Sequential gearboxes family" page with this gearbox or will you not update the page at all?

Hi sheepo! I have two questions. Is this jeep as fast as your mercedes? I was wondering beceause I have built it and it was surprisingly fast, but maybe this car isnt, beceause it weighs more and has more friction beceasuse of the many gears. second question: Is there any moc comming out soon? Im always very excited for a new car ;) Hoping for a response :)

Sheepo said...

Hi, This Jeep as you think is much more slower than the Mercedes, the efficiency is a big problem with big cars.

About new cars, I will not publish any new car soon. I have build many new MOCs(not big ones) in the last months but I don't know if I will publish them. I built them for me.

Do I have to get the instructions for this or can I know how you lock your differentials?

Hi Sheepo,
I’ve made your Jeep Wrangler, Remote Control version.
Waouhh !! What a fantastic model ! The black & red body is so well designed and executed ! The Jeep Wrangler style & spirit are immediately identified, as well as the interior design of the car.
The entire assembly is rigid enough even though the body is just connected to its frame with 4 connecting pins; by the way these 4 pins make the body so easy to remove from its frame, this is so smart !
Functionalities as the doors, the bonnet, the trunk and the rear spare wheel switch work perfectly, as well as the suspensions and the V6 engine.
The 5+R gearbox is associated with so many realistic and complex modes: 2/4WD, low/high speed range, front and rear lockable differentials ! So far there is no official Lego model that gathers so many features in a single model.
I confirm that the model is very reliable. Each function is individually well controlled by its motor: the steering wheel works good as well as the gear sequential gearbox and the different modes. I added some indicators on the remote control to help understand the different driving modes.
However the main improvement I should mention is the way the car runs.
Out of the ground, the model in ones hands, it works as in your video: the wheels speed increases or decreases as changing the different speeds and driving modes.
But as soon as the car is on the ground, the torque is insufficient to move the car properly: the car doesn’t move on the low speed mode. It runs on the 4WD / High speed mode, with good results on the 3rd speed. I re-checked many times the gear assembly to make sure all gears run smoothly between each others and actually they do. I also made minor improvements to make mechanisms run even smoother.
But I think the ratio torque / weight is quite complex to manage => what do you think ?
Anyway I really appreciate the model ! A good point that each function is easy to disconnect from its power function. Therefore we can manually play with the model.
For information, I bought all parts on Bricklink, downloaded from the Rebrickable inventory, and power functions from the Lego shop.
In a few words, Thank you again Sheepo for your masterpiece and to share it ! Your model is now in my home :-)
