This car received a lot of modifcations and improvements along the years, I have built the 1967 model.
[Introduction by wikipedia]
This is an economy car produced by the German auto maker Volkswagen (VW) from 1938 until 2003. The need for this kind of car, and its functional objectives, were formulated by German government, wishing for a cheap, simple car to be mass-produced for the new road network of his country.
The government contracted to Ferdinand Porsche in 1934 to design and build it to his exacting standards. He and his team took until 1938 to finalise the design. This is one of the first rear-engined cars. With over 21 million manufactured (21,529,464) in an air-cooled, rear-engined, rear-wheel drive configuration, the Beetle is the longest-running and most-manufactured car of a single design platform, worldwide.
This creation is made in scale 1:7.8. The total size is: 65 studs of length, only 25 wide and 23 of high (50x20x18 cm)
The weight is 2.5 kgs, with around 3000 parts and 5 motors.
As always it includes some remote controlled functions:
- Steering (M motor)
- Drive (2 XL motors)
- Sequential gearbox (PF Servo motor)
- Brakes (M motor)
The sequential gearbox is a modified version of the Mustang's gearbox (3rd Gen V2), with 4+N+R speeds and as always with auto-clutch.
The speeds ratio:
R - 1.25:1
1 - 1.25:1
2 - 1:1
3 - 1:1.33
4 - 1:1.67
The max speed in 4th speed is 4 kph (~2.5 mph)
It has a gear indicator in the interior, between the front seats.
The bodywork
Also you can disassembly the bodywork removing only 5 pins, do it is very easy and fast.
A complete bodywork with openable doors, front trunk bonnet and and rear engine door.
Also the doors have lock, you need turn the door handle to open it.
It has 4 full size seats and folding front seats.
The suspension is based in the real one: front rigid beam independent suspension axle and rear swing axle.
Also the front axle has stabilizer bar
The steering has ackerman geometry and working steering wheel.
The car also has working brakes in all wheels: disc brakes in the fron and drum brakes in the rear.
In addition it includes functional brake pedal.
Now the "most wanted" picture for technic fans
Finally as always a little video:
I hope you like it!!

Hi Sheepo,
Excellent job as usual. Except for the instructions [for which I'm really waiting for], is it possible that you can sell the Beetle as a kit in the future? If so, I would really like one.
Thanks.
Enhorabuena por la nueva obra de arte!! Gran elección y perfecto trabajo, como siempre!!
Hello Sheepo,
I LOVE THIS CAR!!!! And i would like to know how you have built the N+R+1+2+3+4 gearbox,
kind regards
i kan zien dat je een soort schakel mechanisme hebt ontwikkeld.
hi Sheepo down where you think you instructions ready?
hi Sheepo so to see you have a new switching mechanism developed for your gearbox.
Hi, I don't know, but at minimun one month. The gearbox mechanism is the same as the Mustang.
hi Sheepo why do not l motors in your beetle, a lot less space?
you did that in your mustang.
Is hard to explain, but the available space is not always proportional to the size of the car.
hi Sheepo there is a difference between an motor and a xl l motor. can you explain that to me?
hi Sheepo how much it costs to buy all the pieces of the beetle? I can already start saving.
Amazing!
Hi Sheepo,
Why did you mount the shock absorbers horizontally? I'm not sure if it's like that in the real car, but I don't really know. Is it because it's more convenient or something?
I'm just asking out of curiosity.
Is there going to be a R/C version and a non R/C version of the instructions?
1st anonymous: good question, the real Beetle uses torsion bars instead of traditional springs, I have placed the shock absorves there to hide them.
2nd anonymous: No, I only will make RC version.
Lo has vuelto a hacer!!!
Enhorabuena.
How long did it take to build the gearbox? And are front shock absorbers not a bit too soft?
Why do not you use a servo motor for your disc? it is much more realistic and it works better. I think that it's bad for m motor if you are against it.
A servo could be more realistic, but the M motor is stronger, smaller and more .
Hi sheepo, fantastic car!!! When will the parts-list be available?
As soon as I can ;)
Sheepo hi what is your best car you've made so far and what is your most complicated car?
Hello Sheepo,
What a cool car! Da you have any idea when you have the parts list and instructions available?
I cant wait to build this awesome car!!
Great job! Do you think you could make make another version..... Herbi? That gear box looks pretty hard to make, I cant wait to get the instruction!!
Cool car Sheepo!
I have a question: In the description it says that the car has a total of 5 motors, but in the pictures
it looks like there are 6 cables connected to the IR receivers. Why is that so?
Good question, Only one IR receiver is connected to the battery, the second one is connected to the first one. There is not enough space in the battery to connect both IR receviers.
How is it going with the mocs every month? and how is it going with the mocs?
I am having some problems with my career, and I don't have all time I would want to have.
Hi sheepo, I m making my own car with a gearbox and a friction clutch. But did you place your clutch between the motor and the gearbox or between the gearbox and the wheels ? Thanks :)
Between the motors and the gearbox, just like a real car.
How far are you with te building instructions of this car? When do you aspect that the are finisht?
I don't know when the instructions will be ready, I hope in a couple of weeks.
So i can use the same controller as for the Ford Mustang?
Yes, of course ;)
will you make free instructions for the sequential gearbox
Hello Sheepo,
I see that you make instructions of this car. Where can I get there? I'm verry intrested!
I am still working in the instructions ;(, please be patient.
Hi Sheepo last time i read all the comments and some them say something about the camion 8X8. So i start searching for it and it was on a event and i saw a truck trail 4X4. But now do i have one question WHERE IS THE INFO.
I don't publish all the MOCs I built, I don't have time to write the entries and take good photos... I will do as soon as I get some time...
Hi Sheepo, i'm making a supercar with a remote controlled sequential 8 speed gearbox but i'm having trouble. i made the gearbox but i dont know how to make something that will shift the gears, will u be publishing anthing soon that will help me?
If you want to convert to sequential a manuel gearbox you can try to use the Veyron's gearbox design and update it, or you can buy the Mustang instructions and use it gearbox as a base for your own gearbox
About how much did all the parts cost you? and are all the parts used still available somewhere for purchase? (where do you get those parts?)
one more question, do you explain in your instructions how to make the remote controller? and how to use it to communicate with the car? Im not that familiar with RC but willing to learn
Hi, I didn't buy the part directly for this car, I used parts from my collection, so I don't know what was the ocst for me. You can buy all parts in www.bricklink.com.
And yes, I show how to biuld the remote controller and how to communicate the controllers to the receivers of the car.
ok, thank you very much
i want it so badly
How do you do that slow motion turn on steering wheel just like all real vehicles
He uses small gear for the wheel that connects to a big gear which is connected to the motor
can i also use a pf 6aa battery box?
No, there is not enough space inside the car for a AA battery box.
